WOW . . . It’s been almost three months since my last note to our visitors. Time is flying! And so is PC Pitstop. We are investing in many new and exciting technologies to keep this site one of the most innovative and interesting on the Net.
We’ve been working very hard on one key administrative issue. Almost all of July was eaten up by migrating to new, more expensive and more scalable servers. If you have received session timeouts, please keep on trying. Even now, we’re still fine-tuning the logic for our router. Hopefully early this month, we will have reached our goal: a fully scalable, self-administering system that will allow lots more people to visit our site with great response times. This of course will also free up our time to create even more functionality at PC Pitstop.
Speaking of traffic, July was another banner month. We were mentioned in Access Magazine, a Sunday insert similar to Parade Magazine. We were also mentioned in PC World. So we had a record month, and the servers performed admirably.
Please take a look at our new Statistics site. If I can think of one thing that each one of us at PC Pitstop has in common, it would be that we all love PCs and PC technology. Hopefully, you will see some of the interesting trends that we are pulling from our databases. We are working hard to build a name for producing high quality, highly accurate, dependable, yet affordable research on the PC industry. So take a peek, and if you like it, please tell a friend. If you’re from inside the PC industry and would like to know more, please drop us a line.
Lastly, we are launching two new services this week: our Store and our Internet Connection Center. For our Store, we’ve been working extra hard to find some of the best products in the industry for our PC Pitstop customers. Most importantly, we have begun selling Gateway systems. By running PCs through the Pitstop diagnostic suite, we can determine how much useful life is left in each and every PC. If your PC is on its last legs, we’ll present you with some outstanding Gateway configurations at special prices for Pitstop customers. We think this will be an incredibly informative and useful service, and we hope that you will, too.
Our new Internet Connection Center adds a test to measure your Internet bandwidth (currently in beta). Our tried and true Ping test will also be available from the Center. In addition to telling you if your connection is pulling its weight, these tests also bring to light a revolution: Cable modems and DSL lines are popping up everywhere–and at very affordable prices. If you’re using a telephone line and a modem, you should really consider a faster connection. It only costs a few dollars more a month than a second phone line and ISP–and as everyone at PC Pitstop can attest, the speed is definitely worth it.
I apologize for taking so long to write, but we’ve been busy making PC Pitstop the best site of its kind in the world. Hope you enjoy all the improvements.
