All of those updates from your PC’s support assistant are necessary, and here is why…
I would estimate, on a weekly basis, I am alerted about new updates that my PC needs to stay current. I’ll be honest, I am not always making it a top priority to update these applications. My thought process is: I never use that application, what’s the rush. Well, today I had a light bulb moment. I need to keep my computer updated, because who knows why the old version is outdated. Perhaps there is a security vulnerability, or maybe it’s just an update to increase the application’s efficiency. I can’t be certain, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
My point is, I work for a security software company and I am consistently reading about security threats, yet I still questioned the need. This made me question how many others ignore their update requests. I would guess, not everyone is fully aware of the importance of this.
I want to reiterate, although you may not use that program that needs a new update, you still need to keep it up-to-date. If you’re not, you could be leaving security holes in your PC.
To check your computer for any updates needed, you can go into the “Settings” and then click on “Updates & Security”. From there you can check for updates and install accordingly. To help minimize the updating you have to do on a manual basis, you can utilize PC Matic, which will update common software automatically each time a security scan is ran.
