Social media, online marketing guru and former colleague of mine Paul Gillin wailed recently on CIOs who have not picked up the social media gauntlet. The post was aptly entitled “As business goes social, CIOs sit on sidelines.” Indeed, socially-sidelined CIOs would seem to confirm our poll from a few weeks ago asking if CIOs are reserved or engaging. “Analytical and reserved” edged out “outgoing and engaging” 52% to 48% in the 62 votes cast. You can still vote, by the way.
Gillin’s post is a cautionary tale and can be summed with the line:
“Most CIOs are taking an attitude of, at best, benign neglect toward social networks.”
