Ransomware, the malicious software that locks files until a payment demand is made, has recently hit Greenway Health, located in Carrollton, Georgia. Greenway Health is an electronic health records vendor. Total, they serve over 75,000 different healthcare facilities.
The ransomware strike occurred last week; however, some of the Greenway Health users are still unable to access their records. Meaning they have reverted back to a manual process. It is expected, all of the systems will be restored by the end of business today. The ransomware attack impacted an estimated 5% of Greenway Health electronic health record users.
The ransomware variant was not disclosed, nor was the ransom demand. However, Greenway Health is confident no information was stolen during the ransomware attack.
