Five years have gone by since we opened up shop in March 2000 with a little web site called PC Pitstop. We certainly had our challenges during the first few years. The stock market bubble burst the same month we opened our doors, and September 11th dealt us another blow. We managed to get through those tough times, though, and things are looking up today.
The Internet has changed a lot in the last five years, and we’ve changed with it. Five years ago, Windows 98 and Me ruled the Windows world; now Windows XP is installed on nearly three-quarters of the PCs tested at the site. We’ve tracked the improvements in hard drive size, processor performance, memory, and peripherals. For example, the CD-R drive was a rare and expensive commodity in 2000; now we’re seeing DVD-R/RW drives as standard equipment. Not all the changes have been good though. When we first opened, spyware and adware hardly existed; now they are the most serious problems we diagnose in computers that visit the site.
Five years into this journey, the PC Pitstop site is still dedicated to helping users tweak, tune, and generally get the best possible performance our of their PCs. Keep dropping by, we’ll be here to offer a hand.

Getting Started
Every once in a while I have something to say. From now on, here is where I’ll try to say it. Maybe it’s profound, maybe it’s an update on the site, maybe it’s just me pontificating or ranting. You be the judge!
I’ve been meaning to get around to this for quite a while, thinking that I would set up some sort of blogging software. For now at least, I’m going to make do with creating a new page every month and posting entries at the top of the page. If you want to give me some feedback or discuss anything mentioned here, please do make a post in the Site Feedback section of our forums.
