Indian Government Computers Infected with Ransomware

Last Friday, 150 computers at the Maharashtra government headquarters in India were attacked with the Locky ransomware virus…

Closing the attack, officials declared the targeted files varied from revenue to public works departments; however, the damage was contained before spreading to additional computers. Although it was not confirmed, IT professionals working on the case assumed the virus leaked into the LAN system through spam e-mail. From there, the virus began encrypting doc, PPT, and other files into Locky files.

Government officials claimed on Thursday that the threat was over and all data within the secured servers are unharmed. Since the attack, officials plan take necessary precautions and initiate training to guard against employees accessing spam e-mails carrying a virus.
