On Wednesday, September 15th, 2010, Microsoft released “The Beauty of the Web”, otherwise known as Internet Explorer 9 beta. The download is available here in both 32 and 64 bit versions. The rather obscure reference to beauty must be referring to IE9s use of HTML 5 and CSS 3 support because it’s new interface didn’t elicit any gasps from me.
You can bet Microsoft is pushing to regain some of the ground recently lost to the likes of Mozilla, and Chrome.
New Features
1. Websites can be pinned to the taskbar, like applications.
2. New minimalist interface.
3. Support for HTML 5 and CSS 3.
4. Increased hardware acceleration.
5. Monitoring of Add/Ons to pinpoint which are slowing the launch of the browser.
6. Download manager which warns of potentially malicious code.
This launch is set to feature sites optimized for use with IE 9 Beta.
Provided there are no major glitches, I’m sure IE9 will settle into place without fanfare or interruption of IE’s ever dwindling market share. I don’t believe this is going to swing me or anyone else from using the increasingly popular Google Chrome browser.
This website is certainly excellent, beautiful and exciting but the browser isn’t doing anything for me.
