Laptop PCs Edge Over Tablets is Disappearing
By John Dodge for Enterprise CIO Forum
Tablets, to no one’s surprise, will outpace portable PC sales this year, according to IDC’s Worldwide Tablet Tracker. Indeed, the trend came alive for me last week when I swore never to bring a portable PC to a conference again.
Almost every reporter was using a tablet and mostly the iPad, regardless of whether he or she had an external keyboard. Laptop PCs have retained an edge over tablets given the built-in keyboard.
That edge now seems to be disappearing. When I saw a colleague hammering away at the iPad’s screen keyboard, I asked myself why am I lugging around this cumbersome and heavy MacBook (15-inch screen version whose expensive and heavy metal case never made sense to me).
