Louisville Regional Airport Riddled with Ransomware
Another ransomware attack has infected the computer systems of Kentucky’s Louisville Regional Airport. The exact ransomware variant, and following ransom demands have not yet been disclosed. However, airport officials have confirmed the attack was isolated to computer files and did not impact operations or security perimeters.
It is unclear if the airport’s IT department is working to restore the files through backup systems, or if they intend to pay the ransom demands in an effort to expedite the remediation process.
Other Attacks
This is far from the first ransomware attack we’ve seen this year. Just earlier this year, the Cleveland airport was also hit with ransomware.
In addition, the City of Baltimore is still working to restore their networks after cyber criminals infiltrated their networks last month. So far, over 10,000 computers remain frozen from the ransomware infection. In addition, hundreds of real estate transactions have been put on hold until unpaid lien records can be accessed. On top of that, public health systems remain inaccessible, and the public works department is unable to generate new water bills.
