Prior to joining PC Matic, I worked for the federal government. I was enrolled in the federal healthcare plan, and nine times out of ten, anytime I told someone that I worked for the federal government, they always responded with the statement that “federal benefits, particularly the healthcare, were great” and a major reason I should consider staying on as a federal employee as long as I could.
Quite frankly, they were right. The benefits of being a federal employee were great and the insurance plans were fantastic. These benefits are given to millions of employees across the federal government, and they are used as a tool to recruit and retain the talent needed to staff federal agencies and departments.
Upon my departure from the federal government, I was convinced I wouldn’t find another healthcare plan that was as great as the federal government’s. Despite it being relatively easy to find jobs in the private sector that pay more than jobs in government, oftentimes, it is much harder to find jobs with benefits that are even comparable to those offered by the federal government.
It wasn’t until I came to PC Matic that I believed comparable options even existed, and quite frankly, in my opinion, PC Matic has one of the best healthcare plans available.
What Makes Healthcare at PC Matic Different
Since our inception in 1999, PC Matic has paid for 100% of its employees healthcare premiums. That’s right. Not one dollar is deducted from an employee’s paycheck for healthcare. Instead, PC Matic has prioritized the health of each of its employees and covers every dollar associated with healthcare premiums – even as the company continues to grow and add new employees every month.
As if that isn’t a great benefit in and of itself, PC Matic also picks up the tab for family plans. Regardless of whether you have a wife or husband, and no matter how many children you have, PC Matic covers 100% of their premiums as well. This is really exciting for me as I just got married and as we start to consider children – especially with the rising costs of healthcare and insurance plans.
To offer these benefits, the company paid nearly $1.2 Million in healthcare premiums in 2021, and so far in 2022, we’ve paid nearly $840,000.
In addition to covering healthcare premiums, the company also picks up the tab for all prescriptions. Anytime we head to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, we are able to use our company credit card to cover those costs. This is another great benefit we’re offered and yet another indication of PC Matic’s commitment to employee health.
Additional Ways PC Matic Prioritizes Healthcare
Aside from the medical benefits we’re offered, and our prescription costs being covered, another example of PC Matic’s commitment to employee health comes in a stipend we receive each month for gym memberships.
Company leadership encourages all employees to take time to exercise, whether it be in the form of cycling class or weightlifting, and every employee is awarded $75 per month to put towards a gym membership. This benefit costs the company nearly $12,000 per year, but CEO Rob Cheng firmly believes this is money well spent and those who exercise are happier and more productive both at work and home.
This has been something I’ve really appreciated about working at PC Matic, and I recently started putting that stipend towards a Peloton membership that I ride nearly every day during my lunch hour.
Despite the Costs, We Prioritize Employee Health
There’s no secret that covering these costs for employees is expensive and impacts the company’s bottom line. However, regardless of that impact it has on the company’s profits, the company’s commitment to employee health is unwavering.
