Ransomware Strikes Spring Hill, Tennessee
The City of Spring Hill was hit with an unknown ransomware variant last Friday. After encrypting the city’s files, the hackers demanded $250,000 to restore the systems. City officials reported they contacted the appropriate law enforcement and chose not to pay the ransom. Instead they are going to restore the systems, to the best of their ability, on their own.
The attack did not breach any personal information of citizens or employees. However, the online payment systems were impacted. Gov Tech reported the city offices are still operating the best they can, even if it requires implementing manual processes.
