Irish Times reported on a ransomware study completed by Data Solutions. The survey reported 93% of the organizations would not pay the ransom demand following a ransomware attack. This is great news. But is it accurate? Too often it is easy to say one thing, and do the other when the situation arises. After digging into the additional statistics a bit further, we found that there were two major fears organizations had pertaining to a ransomware attack. First, the potential damage reputation. Second, the lost data. Would these fears cause businesses to quickly pay to keep the attack quiet and get back to business as usual as soon as possible? Perhaps. Which is why businesses need to mitigate the risk of a ransomware attack.
How can this be done? A majority of respondents shared they have upgraded their security measures, with another 5% reporting spending more on security in 2016 than in 2015. However, we all know money can’t always provide the best protection. Only 10% of organizations reported feeling confident in their security measures. So what needs to be done differently?
Better protection. The use of application whitelisting is becoming more and more popular, due to its advanced protection methods.
