College Networks and Devices Remain Inaccessible After Emotet Malware Riddles Syste ms
Classes have resumed this week after malware corrupted a Tennesee college network and devices last week.
Columbia State Community College initially was infected with Emotet malware on February 13th when an employee opened an infected email. Initial thoughts were the malware was successfully contained. However, days later it became active, leading to the college to completely shut down operations for two days.
The public initially thought the college was closed due to localized flooding. However, school officials sent out an email confirming the closure was due to a cyber attack and that classes would resume on February 27th.
Even with classes starting, campus networks and devices are still inaccessible. At this time, it remains unclear when the malware will be fully eradicated and systems will return to full capacity.
