Purpose: iTunesHelper.exe is a background task and is part of Apple's iTunes. It is also part of QuickTime version 7 which now comes bundled with iTunes. If you use QuickTime version 7 or later, removing this task has caused the loss of QuickTime audio for some users. Some users claim that it is used to recoginize a connected iPod. It is up to the user to determine if this process is required for their configuration. Prior to QuickTime version 7, iTunesHelper.exe was a program which allowed Apple iTunes to use some older models of CD drives that otherwise would not be compatible with iTunes. However, for these earlier versions, it was unnecessarily started at system boot time. Apple iTunes would start iTunesHelper.exe if it was needed when you used iTunes.

ituneshelper.exe is a user invoked program and a normal part of PC operations. No action required.
